The Snack Shop at the End of the World
(This game is in early, concept development)
In One Sentence: A character-driven, roguelite, chill-action RPG in which you scour dangerous wilds around the world’s last city to source ingredients for the meals you cook.
Quick Pitch: You and your sibling run a snack shop in the world’s last remaining enclave. To make ends meet, you’ll need to cook food, forage, master magic, fight off demons, befriend oddballs, and solve mysteries. Take a bundle of Stardew Valley’s chill progression, sprinkle in Undermine’s roguelike “runs” and Moonlighter’s store-operation process, add a dash of Night in the Woods’ love for character-driven stories, and stir vigorously with Spirited Away’s stylistic feel.
Game Pillars: Snack Shop centers on three core gameplay elements:
Cooking (a crafting-like experience that enables earning resources, building relationships, and progressing the narrative, world, and player character)
Foraging (the roguelite, combat + exploration experience to earn resources for the restaurant)
Role-play (dialogue, quests, and narrative growth with the city’s NPCs)
Player Goals: Snack Shop creates engaging gameplay for players with two central elements
Experiencing character-driven stories (like a well-written TV show), i.e. “I want to know what happens next!”
Incrementally progressing and customizing the character and restaurant, i.e. “I want to get this upgrade for my snack shop/PC!”
Player Role: Players take the role of a going-broke restaurant operator, chef/forager, and denizen of the undercity. They are striving to dig out of debt, support the community around them, and turn their restaurant into a thriving operation.
